Absence from School

If a student is absent from school, parents are required to send an email or phone the school (on the day, with follow up notification in writing) informing staff of the absence. Similarly, lateness is considered an absence from school. Parents are required to sign students in if they are arriving late. This must be done through the front office by filling out a late slip before the child returns to class or parents will be called to confirm lateness. If a child turns up to class without a late slip you will need to send them down to the front office to attain one. If a pattern of lateness exists, schools are required to raise this issue with parents as it impacts on the student’s opportunity to learn. If families are taking extended leave exceeding 5 weeks consecutive, the Directorate requires parents to complete an Exemption form for the child (or children) being taken out of school. We trust you will support this process, as we are all responsible for working together towards quality learning.

Accidents and Illnesses

We notify you when your child is sick or injured at school. The school has sick bay facilities which may be used until parent/carers are contacted and asked to take the child home. We ask that three phone numbers be given to the school for emergency contact - home, work and a relative or friend living in the ACT. Should your child develop chicken pox, mumps, measles, head lice or any other contagious condition, please contact the school for information about exclusion periods and to enable the school to warn other parent/carers that their children have been exposed to possible infection.

Allergy Aware School

Campbell Primary School is an allergy aware school as some of our students have severe allergies to certain items, specifically nuts. Please do not send food items such as nuts, peanut butter, snacks containing peanuts or items cooked in peanut oil.

If you have any concerns or questions about this policy please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Appointments

Communication between school and home is highly valued. Parents are asked to make an appointment for any discussion with the Principal, Deputy Principal, School Psychologist or teachers.

An appointment will be arranged at the earliest possible time and attention will be given immediately to urgent issues.

Arrival and Departure

Children should arrive at school after 8.30am and move directly to their designated play area. The library is open from 8:30am and there is a teacher on duty in the playground from 8:45am. In the afternoons children are expected to depart the school grounds promptly at 3.00pm. The only supervision provided after school is for students travelling home on school bus runs. Before and after school care is provided by CASAC for casual and permanent bookings.

Assemblies

Assemblies are held regularly throughout each term in the school hall. Parents are invited to attend. Each class takes a turn at presenting the assembly, which showcases work undertaken in the previous weeks. Information about the assembly schedule is in the Dates to Remember section of the newsletter and on the term calendar.
